Are you Expecting Jesus to Show Up? Living With Expectancy: Welcome. Fall. Believe
Expecting Jesus to Show Up

Are you expecting Jesus to show up in your situation? When He does show up, how do you plan on welcoming Him?  Are you expecting Him to make  your faith whole? We live each day expecting someone or something whether it is another package from Amazon, promises from a friend or loved one, or proposals (engagement or business opportunity) . One of my favorite actresses Sanaa Lathan played the role of Violet Jones in Nappy Roots. Violet did the most when she was anticipating her boyfriend to propose at her birthday party. Welp, guess what? That never happened, instead he surprised her with a puppy. Let’s unpack the word expecting; according to Miriam Webster dictionary it means: to think that something will probably happen. To think that someone or something will arrive or that something will happen.

Now, let’s reflect on Luke 8:40-56 (I will wait here until you finish reading that passage, don't forget to include a selah moment)... Welcome back, did you catch what I did? Here’s what the Holy Spirit illuminated for me to see:

  1. The crowd welcomed Jesus!! That's a huge difference from when he arrived at the region of Gerasenes across the lake from Galilee. Only one miracle happened there because he was unwelcome. They practically ushered him out. (Luke 8:37)

  2. A desperate father “fell at the feet of Jesus” seeking healing for his dying daughter.

  3. The lady with the issue of blood is expected to be made whole after touching Jesus. Again, she fell at his feet.

  4. Jesus said, don't be afraid, just believe and she will be healed. Jesus said this after Jairus’ daughter was pronounced dead.

  5. Jesus only allowed the people with faith in him to heal the daughter inside. He did not allow anyone else to enter with him except the five people mentioned.

  6. They laughed at Jesus, but he took the little girl by the hand.

  7. We can't share our miracles with everyone as they don't believe and they are mocking you while standing on the outside of your situation. But allow Jesus to step into your situation as he has an unstoppable track record for bringing dead things to life- now that will be living with expectancy!

Before you go, I have a few questions.

  1. Why should we expect Jesus to take us through or change our situation?

  2. How can we accomplish this?

  3. What's the importance of welcoming Jesus?

  4. What are a few practical ways to apply this?

Sister, I challenge you to simply believe that Jesus wants to enter your situation!! What would our ‘situation’ look like if we went to Jesus first? It can save us time, resources, energy, and more if we do what Matthew 6:33 says, “seek ye first the kingdom of God…”

The Holy Spirit downloaded three practical steps we can take to apply this lesson:

Welcome. Fall. Believe

“Welcome” Don’t be afraid or “Ms. Independent” instead welcome Jesus into your situation. This takes a great deal of faith, but he is moved by our faith, not by our fear. (v. 50)

“Fall”: Fall at the feet of Jesus!! This is a form of worship & surrender.

“Believe” Believe that Jesus will see you through even though your situation may look hopeless!! Stop wailing and allow him to take you at your hand & expect a shift to take place.
