Acknowledge Jesus...
What does it mean to acknowledge Jesus? One might wonder, how is it possible to acknowledge someone I cannot see or physically hear. I have found that the more time I spend reading the word of God, the more Scripture comes alive by becoming a tangible force that is undeniable, yet powerful.
According to the Miriam Webster Dictionary the word acknowledge means: to know something or someone. To declare that one recognizes the claims of a person or thing fully established.
As I carefully studied Luke 8:26-39 I received the following revelation:
We should acknowledge & trust Jesus enough to sail with him to the other side.
Even the demons recognized and acknowledged Jesus.
The demons cried out & fell at the feet of Jesus because they feared him. We should copy and paste this, but only with a reverential fear (a deep respect for who He is).
The demons knew their place and knew not to mess with Jesus.
The man was healed and then sat at the feet of Jesus. He received total restoration in his mind.
That man went from living in a tomb to living and sharing the gospel. We ought to testify on how Jesus healed us in addition to everything else God has done for us.
Get excited, it’s time discuss a few things:
What's the importance of acknowledging Jesus?
What would it look like today to your “sail” with Jesus?
What is the difference between fear and reverential fear of God? V.28 & 37 vs. V.35 & 39 (Reverential fear is a feeling of awe, respect, and worship for God that is taught in the Bible. It is a way of honoring God because of his holiness and greatness.) The other fear is unhealthy and can drive us to become anxious, depressed, or tormented.
Can you recall a time when God healed you (spiritually, physically, or emotionally). How did it make you feel? How can others benefit from this testimony?
What evidence do you have that God loves you? How can others benefit from hearing your “love” story?
Sound the alarm as we arrived at the part where it is your turn to apply what you just learned from this Bible Study. Here are three simple yet practical take-aways…
Sit. Tell. Recognize Jesus!!
Sit at his feet!! Doing so will allow you to stay close to him. Sitting at His feet demonstrates humility, respect, surrender, and closeness.
Tell somebody, actually, tell everybody how much God has done for you and what being in his presence means to you.
Recognize Jesus! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in doing this and do it afraid!! If the demons recognized Him, what should that say about us?
But this can only happen by actively pursuing Him by spending time reading the word of God, chill with other Jesus followers, and have organic conversations with him. During my morning walks, I imagine that I am walking on the road to Emmaus by having authentic and beautiful conversations with the Lord. I honestly believe this lady on my route thinks I am psycho as she looks the other way when she sees me or she pivots to go in a different direction. Guess what? I don’t care what people think as I feel so much closer to the Lord and Jesus after I complete my morning walks.
I would love to hear your testimony on how Jesus transformed your life. Please share the details in the comments below :-)
