Understanding Biblical Giving. Faith and Generosity: A Biblical View
Do you have a desire to give, but fear of not having enough is holding you back? Biblical Generosity Explained

What does the Bible say about faith and generosity? Once upon a time worrying about my financial situation was a natural obsession. I would boldly proclaim that 'I was so broke I was unable to pay attention.' That was wrong on every level as it was contrary to the word of God. The worse part was I did not know the damage I caused from having a poverty mindset as it began affecting the perspective of my now 17year old and 11 year old daughters. In September 2023, God began doing a work in me to demolish that stronghold by renewing my mind to his word. In order to grow in my faith where my finances were concerned I had to give God all the negative stronghold and immerse myself in his word to gain godly perspective.

So what does the Bible Says about Giving in 2 Corinthians 8:1 -24? I always had a desire to give, but I would convince myself to wait until I had enough to give as I wanted to do it BIG. Last year, in 2025, I watched God do His thing through my husband's obedience. The Lord had placed it on his heart to give to the residents in Daniel Town and Falmouth, Jamaica - the victims of Hurricane Melissa. I was all for it, I wanted to replace roofs, build tiny homes, rebuild churches, and so much more, but the reality is we only had $200 to spare and my husband was adamant to start with what God placed in his hands. Long story short, God placed the desire on countless hearts to sow into Leighton's idea and the contributions began rolling in. In short my husband was able to bless more than 50 families with food and essentials, five families with generators, one student with a new laptop, countless students with clothes and backpacks, and so much more. God even used a local church in Pinehills, Florida to be apart of this mission.

So why do we hesitate when the Lord instructs us to give...Fear? Lack? 2 Corinthians 8:1-24 really blessed me by shifting my perspective on giving while being strapped for cash. There's one word in this chapter that the Holy Spirit kept highlighting - Grace. The grace of God will take you where no one can. It will make the impossible become possible. The grace of God has the ability to produce an overflow of joy and generosity even in the midst of suffering (verses 1 & 2).

The Grace of God can:

  1. Stretch tangible & intangible resources.

  2. Put your name in the hearts and minds of others - this will happen without your help or intervention.

  3. Cause you to excel in every area of your life - faith, speech, knowledge, complete earnestness (sincere intentions), love, and giving. Yep, you can excel in giving - verse 7.

  4. Give you the ability to do the will of God.

  5. Bless you with an eager willingness to finish the assignment God gave you.

  6. Cause equality to happen with our resources for the kingdom of God to be financially balanced (v.14).

So, what are you going to do with the grace God is giving you? Here's what we should do with it - Honor God (v. 19). We ought to give without any reservations if God is leading us to do so. When we give we should do it with joy and an eagerness. Remember this, the grace of God can produce an overflow of joy & generosity even in the midst of suffering- verses 1-2. His grace will allow you to give beyond your natural ability. What should you give? Your time, acts of service, prayers, or finances - ask God, he will let you know.

Are you ready to give? When you give you will gain an abundance of joy that will cause your faith to grow. In Luke 6:38, NIV it says to "Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured in to your lap. For with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you." When you give your cup will run over and God will cause blessings to flow in your lap.
